When I was in ninth grade, I was in study hall one day and remember the directions that the proctor, Mrs. Cote, gave us. “Spend the next five minutes,” she said, “figuring out what you’re doing to do with the next 45 minutes.” Here’s why that’s great:

If you made a list of all the things you could possibly do with your time, that list would be very long. But if you have a limited amount of time and can only complete a few things, then you’ll end up writing down only the most important things. If you do that every time you sit down to do some work, the result is that you’ll end up always doing the most important things at any given.
